What are Values? Why do they Matter?

Updated: Nov 11, 2019

Our Values are our non-negotiable in life.

They are the emotional drivers that we want more of, in our every day experiences.

We operate via our Values sub-consciously in every moment of our lives, making decisions, raising our children, utilising our sense of what fits for us and what doesn't, choosing one direction over another etc.

So imagine identifying those Values with intention, being clear on those Values and what they mean to you and then actioning them into your life with even more intention. So empowering!

How do I identify my Values?

Ok here's a fun exercise.

Lets do it step by step:

  1. Grab a piece of paper and your favourite pen.

  2. Close your eyes, breathe deeply in through your nose then out through your mouth.

  3. Be in your heart space instead of your head space. Basically means don't overthink. :)

  4. Now write down every 'state of being' in your life that means something to you. Examples might be love, truth, authenticity, fun, wellbeing, honesty, service to others etc. Write until you've run out of ideas. Its a brain dump so just go and go. No thinking allowed.

  5. Now look at your list without thinking too much and circle the first 10 words that jump out to you.

  6. Good Job!

  7. Now I want you to chunk down even further. Out of those 10 words now circle the first 7 words that jump out to you...still no thinking.

  8. Ok...one more time, now put those 7 in order of priority...remember you are not thinking...you are feeling. :)

  9. Bang! Congratulations, you have done a super quick 'Finding my Values' exercise to assist you in raising your awareness around what Values are to you. Yay!

  10. There are a couple of more in-depth steps to this fabulous process that require assistance from me so if you're keen to go there just let me know.

  11. Good job you!
